Contour Round with Scroll and Dot Wedding Cake

The three (3) tier contour round wedding cake is a yellow buttery flavor with buttercream frosting. I pondered over and over again on how I was going to ice the cake because of the rounded corners. I had never used the contour round pans until now.

Contour round cakes are really made to be covered in fondant. As I covered the bottom tier with buttercream icing, I could tell the cake was not looking like a contour round but like I regular round cake. I had to improvise. I picked up my small spatula and tediously smooth the top of the cake at an angle so I could get the contour look. It worked great.

Now comes the really tedious part, freehanding the scroll work. My, my, my, from the first scroll I was cringing. After a few scrolls where done, I was feeling better and better about the design.

I adorned the cake with roses alternating each tier as well as the back of the cake because the cake was placed at the reception where the back of the cake would been seen by guests.

I am a true fan of the contour round pans.
