Beach Wedding Cake

Beach Wedding Cake

The cake was designed for a wedding which was to held on the beach, and the bride and groom wanted sea shells, sea horses and starfish decor .

The cake was a rich fruit cake, to which I added glace fruit and glace ginger in addition to the glace cherries. To give it a nice, moist texture, I added melon and ginger jam. The base was 30 cm and the middle layer was 25 cm with a top layer of 20 cm. Of course, there was the inevitable lashings of brandy.

The cake was covered with a layer of marzipan and fondant over that. The shells and other marine decor were made from sugar paste. I used real shells to create molds from sugar paste. When they were dry and had hardened sufficiently, they were perfect to re-create realistic shells.

I dusted them with petal dust in colors to match the actual shells, with a tint of mauve to fit in with the color scheme.

The total weight was well over 10 Kg.

Very well done that is a odd cake flavor for a wedding cake but if that is what the bride and groom wanted then that is what it should be... but I really like your shells... done very well... thanks for sharing!
